The Doherty High School “Hot Pockets” Jazz Band has long been a cornerstone of the school’s performing arts program. Renowned for its polished ensemble sound, expressive soloists, and stylistic versatility, the group has repeatedly earned top marks at the UNC Greeley Jazz Festival. The “Hot Pockets” showcase the depth of talent, teamwork, and passion that define Doherty’s jazz tradition.

Pinnacle Jazz and the Ascent Big Band were both created in 2021 under the umbrella of the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony. The Ascent Big Band has won a number of musical awards at various festivals, and was a featured band at the 2023 Colorado Music Educators Association convention. The Pinnacle Jazz Band has received superior ratings consistently at the Pikes Peak Jazz Festival. Both groups are under the direction of Dan Bell.
